“They’ll Never Know It’s Beets” Lemonade

Who doesn’t like pink lemonade? No need to settle for yucky chemical-heavy commercial products, when you can get a quick and nutrient-dense version yourself.

Beet powder is a fantastic staple to have on hand. It can greatly boost the nutrient quality while at the same time giving you playful pigment. The natural sweetness of beets can also help you cut back on other sweeteners. Great to add to smoothies and also handy for baking…think red velvet brownies!!

You can use it as a chemical-free food colouring for homemade play-dough, cosmetics, tie-dye projects and more.

One teaspoon of beet powder is the equivalent of one beet. Beets have a host of benefits, and are particularly noted for their potential to help lower blood pressure, increase exercise endurance and promote blood flow to the brain. You may have heard the “buzz” about nitric oxide. Nitric oxide helps relax and widen blood vessels, which plays a role in lowering blood pressure. Beets are nitrate-rich, which is converted to nitric oxide in the body. Nitrate-rich foods may improve blood flow to the parts of the brain that need it most – helping prevent age-related cognitive decline. Yay beets!

“They’ll never know its Beets” pink lemonade

1 litre of filtered water
1 teaspoon beet powder (I used Upaya Naturals)
Juice of 1 lemon (approx 4 1/2 tablespoons)
2 tablespoons of maple syrup

Mix a small amount of water into beet juice powder and blend well; this will help prevent clumps. Add everything to blender and mix well. Serve your unsuspecting family this cardiovascular-friendly drink!

Enjoy!
