Whipped Body Butter

Have you ever heard that expression about never putting anything on your skin that you wouldn’t eat? It’s good advice, as skin is your largest organ. Have you noticed as well, that many pharmaceutical drugs are now available in transdermal patches? That is because of the rapid and efficient absorption into your system. This fact should make you pause for a moment the next time you reach for a product to slather on your skin. A quick glance on the “Skin Deep” data base by the Environmental Working Group will have you reeling when you realize the liberal inclusion of toxic compounds, potential endocrine disruptors and other nasty funk that are commonly found in popular commercial products.

This time of year in particular, has us reaching for moisturizing products to help us combat the drying effects of our harsh climate.

I have really enjoyed making my own body butters in the last while. I have the confidence of knowing exactly what is in the product, and the satisfaction of making it myself. This most recent batch was particularly fruitful. It has a lovely pillowy texture and heavenly scent. It has to be done in stages, so please allow yourself some time – maybe you can finally sit down and read that book you’ve been putting off 😉

Whipped Body Butter

1/4 cup beeswax – grated
3/4 cup raw cacao butter- grated
1/2 cup organic coconut oil
1/2 cup grape seed oil
10 – 20 drop orange essential oil

Melt beeswax, cacao butter and coconut oil in double boiler. Add grape seed oil and blend well. Place in refrigerator for about an hour (get your book) until it starts to solidify but isn’t too hard. Whip with hand mixer or free standing mixer using whisk attachment for approximately 10 minutes. It should look fluffy and lovely. Spoon into glass containers. This rich body butter is quite remarkable in how quickly it is absorbed. Keep a jar in the bathroom, in the bedroom, at your desk…..say goodbye to dry, flaky skin!
