Spring Detox Elixir

You know me and my potions. At least once a day, someone will ask me, “What are you drinking NOW?” with a mix of curiosity and amusement. Not to disappoint, I thought I would experiment with yet another miracle elixir.

Having a history of low iron, I find I will frequently crave certain foods that are naturally iron-rich (except red meat). I love beets, figs and molasses. It turns out blackstrap molasses (unsulphured, fair trade, organic) is incredibly mineral-rich. One measly tablespoon has a whopping 15% of your daily iron needs, 10% of your calcium, 10% of your B6, and 8% of your magnesium needs.

I had read various reports of its ability to increase energy and even prevent grey hair – gasp… Sign me up!!

I decided to pair up molasses with organic, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar and raw local honey – both nutrition super foods in their own right. For maximum absorption and ease of blending, I recommend gently warming the water first. A nice addition of lemon (helps alkalize your body). And, voila, you have a nice energizing way to start your day!

Ideally, this is a beverage best enjoyed first thing in the morning. Give it a try – who knows, maybe you’ll have more energy and fewer grey hairs!
